*This is something I wrote a long time ago. Before this project was conceived. Something that popped into my mind when I saw a trailer for Fallout 3 and listening to MaSu lol. Hopefully we can pick from this and use some of it for our stories. Esp: the guns and stuff in this short story are badass to me lol*
In Sector 5, the sky was red, it looked like the atmosphere was on fire. Several cities had survived the nuclear attack that had happened a couple of years ago. One city in particular called Neo-Solace had developed itself quite well from all the destruction. But it was mainly controlled by gangs and crime lords. It was far from a solace now. But many people see it as a haven compared to the surrounding areas of Sector 5.
Depending where you traveled in Neo-Solace you’d either be in a friendly populated area or watching your back for any cut throat looking to kill you for a buck. The cut throat area is where Tempus started his search. He had left his friends back in Sector 2 at their hidden base in Ridcon. The only person from his group that had found out about his private mission was BD. Tempus didn’t care to be discreet in Neo-Solace. Even though the people of Sector 5 consider it a haven, Tempus considers it a cesspool.
His hair was long and red with several streaks dyed yellow. His greenish-blue hazel eyes were hidden behind black sunglasses that fit firmly around his face. Tempus was unshaven and always had a cigarette in his mouth or tucked securely behind his ear. He was of average height, about five foot eight. His hair fell down to just above his waist and was twisted into a ponytail. He had a large shoulder guard on his right arm. He also held an E Rifle with the same arm and kept it resting up on his shoulder. His left arm had no shoulder guard but a specially designed gauntlet that acted as a person computer for himself. His chest was protected by a modified military chest plate. Two straps for sheaths on his back stretched across his black steel chest plate. The sheaths held his Z Swords. In the center part where the sheaths crossed on his back was an EMC (Electro Magnetic Circuit). This was a heavy duty magnet used to hold his E Rifle when he wasn’t using it. All he had to do was drop it behind him and the EMC would catch it. His pants were a simple cargo jeans. Each pocket filled with several types of grenades. Along his belt was several sheaths for E Daggers and security splicers for getting into heavily secured areas.
BD was shorter than Tempus, more of the rogue type. Standing at about four foot eleven, he was about the tallest Quon in all the Sectors. He wore a stocking cap that covered most of his brown hair. The rest of it stuck out from the brim and looked as if he had brown spikes protruding from his hat. Between the spikes of brown hair were black eyes. BD is short for Blind Dog. He was an impatient, reckless, and a walking bomb. Although unseen, BD had more than enough explosives on his person to blow half a city sky high. He had everything from minor to devastating grenades. He wore a specially designed cloak that fit his size perfectly. Beneath that he wore a jacket and under that a white undershirt. The cloak and jacket were loaded with pockets filled with explosive goodies. With BD in the party, no fight was left without a bang. The only visible weapon he had was strapped across his back. An R type bazooka cannon. The weapon was probably as big has he was, but he handled it with ease and was deadly accurate.
While Tempus and BD were part of a gang they didn’t see eye to eye on things. Which is why Tempus was so pissed when he realized who had found out about his mission. If he had let the Quon stay at the base he would have surely told everyone what was going on and he’d have a whole group of people with him. Kanteron especially would not have approved of Tempus going out on his own. Sector 5 was probably the most dangerous sector in the Machina region. But this was the place that held the answers Tempus had been searching for since he was teenager. And he wasn’t about to talk openly about his past to the gang. Especially a past that exposed Tempus to his core being. And now he was debating whether or not he should have let BD tag along with him.
BD was walking behind Tempus with his hands behind his head. He looked up at the red sky and sighed, “So what are we going to do walk for a couple more hours or actually do something?”
“Shut up and follow me.” Tempus responded.
“We’ve talked to only a few people to get information about this ‘Grenmark’ whatever that is. And we haven’t even made progress because you end up insulting everyone you talk to and that also leaves us without a place to stay. Do I need to retell the conversation you had with the motel owner? We won’t even have a soft bed or anything to sleep on tonight with your jackass mood.”
Tempus let his rifle fall behind his back and it stuck solidly to the EMC on his back and before BD knew what was going on he found an E Dagger humming under his neck. His chin tickled from the electric pulse of the yellow electrons flowing around the daggers edge.
“Kanteron is not here to back your little ass up BD, say something, say one more thing and the guards won’t even be able to tell who you are from your cauterized face.”
BD gulped and looked up at Tempus, “Yes…no more words.”
The tickling feeling went away from BD’s chin as the E Dagger was switched off but even with the electrons turned off, it was a still a sharp piece of steel. Flipping it back into his palm, Tempus slid it back into it’s sheath along his waist.
“The old man at the motel said that Grenmark is located down this street somewhere. We’re going to find it.”
BD kept his mouth shut, but he was still very curious as to what this Grenmark was and why it meant so much to Tempus to find it. As the street curved to the right it ended in a cul-de-sac the two could see a tall building at the end of it. In front of the tall building a group of bikers on their hover bikes sat talking to each other.
“BD, cloak yourself, now.” Tempus said.
Without a word BD reached inside his cloak and then the scenery blurred over him and then he was completely invisible. He didn’t know what exactly Tempus was up to, but he did know that the bikers up ahead were probably not friends of his.
There were five bikers in a circle, they were guarding the entrance to the tall building. The hover bikes hummed softly as they hovered right above the ground. The bikers sat laughing and talking to each other. The biker in the middle was the first to see Tempus approaching. He put his hands out and motioned for the rest to be quiet.
All five of them had long beards and dirty faces. They all wore the same sleeveless shirts and most of them had many tattoos along their arms. The biker in the middle scratched his chin and then spit out a wad of chewing tobacco from his mouth.
“Hey stranger, you’d best stop your sight seeing here and head back into town. Citizens aren’t even allowed back here.”
Tempus stopped about five feet before them, “Is this Grenmark?”
The biker looked around in annoyance and then put his gaze back on Tempus, “Yes and if you know that much then what business do you have with Major Gren?”
“I’d like to ask him a few questions,” Tempus reached behind his back and pulled his E Rifle off the EMC and pointed it at the head biker, “if you don’t mind.”
Soon the quiet street was filled with the soft buzzing of E Pistols turning on. The rest of the bikers aimed them all at Tempus waiting for something to happen.
“You might be able to kill me, but as soon as you do, your body will be nothing more than electron dust. This is pointless stranger.”
Two of the five bikers were flung into the air covered in flame as their bikes exploded out from under them. As the two bikes fell to the ground in heaps of burning scrap metal their riders rolled around on the ground screaming in pain ten feet away. Now the biker leader’s attention was directed behind him to see who attacked his men. Once he looked away Tempus shot down the two men beside him. As they fell down beside him Tempus had jumped into the air. The rifle was already reattached to the EMC and he was pulling out his Z Swords. Tempus landed on the front of the hover bike and crossed the blades under the biker’s head like a pair of scissors. The biker’s eyes grew wide and he looked up at Tempus with fear in his eyes.
“I don’t know how you did that, but I’m not going to stop you, you can go in! Please, just don’t kill me!”
BD turned his cloaking device off and Tempus could see where he was at. He was standing up by the door of Grenmark. He looked at what Tempus was doing and shook his head, “let him go Tempus!”
With a quick slice the bikers head fell from his body. Tempus jumped down off the hover bike and put his swords away.
