The trees were swaying back and forth with the new fall breeze. The leaves were changing from green to their many different colors that an artist couldn't even mimic. You'd have to see them with your own eyes to understand their beauty.
Rebecca was enjoying her walk through the woods. Something she was always told never to do on her own, but she didn't head to the words of others much. She made her own rules. Her hair was long and dark. She was slender, athletic, and came up to around five foot three. She didn't liked to be disturbed on her walks. She walked to get away, to escape, and to be herself.
She was a very personal person and didn't speak to many people. Since her parents are Lien, they came from a rich background, and she didn't like the people her parents introduced to her at all.
Most girls would carry around a diary but Rebecca carried around a sketchbook. It was just like a diary to her. Instead of writing out her feelings, she drew them, and no one saw her drawings ever. Several days ago she found the perfect shade tree in Morgor Field to sit under. It's branches were low and seemed to want to hold you or protect you.
Exiting the woods she looked up the hill to her favorite tree. As she neared it, she could hear music. Strange since she was in a part of Morgor Field far from Lindobaugh, she knew it wasn't from the village. Getting closer the music became louder and she could make out that it was some type of flute.
The base of the tree was also very wide and whoever was playing the music was on the other side so she couldn't see. The music was soft and sweet, she liked listening to it. She started to walk around the tree.
Sitting on the other side was a young man around seventeen years old. Which would be how old Rebecca would be in human years, but with her Lien blood she's considered fifty four. He had red hair that went down to his shoulders and he was playing an ocarina.
He didn't notice that she had approached him and she smiled at the tune he was playing. The air around him and the tree felt calm and relaxing. She sat down in a shady patch of soft grass and continued listening.
Nearly five minute had gone by and he just started to finish his song when he opened his eyes. Shocked by finding a girl sitting in front of him, he abruptly stopped his song.
"Oh no, please!" Rebecca said with a smile, "Finish the song, I want to hear it."
The red haired boy smiled and then continued. Resting her hand on her chin she enjoyed the rest of his song. Leaning back against the tree, the boy sighed, smiled, and looked over at her.
"How long have you been here?" he asked.
"Just long enough to hear that song, it was amazing. I've never heard anyone play like that before. Where did you learn it?"
He smiled, "From my aunt. She loved flutes and music of this sort. It's the only thing I really learned."
"Some people say that music like that can even influence people or create magic."
"It can. Did you, or do you, feel relaxed right now?"
"Yes actually I do."
"I came out here to get away from the village. Somewhere that I could play my song so it could relax me without interruption."
"Did I interrupt you at all? I hope not!"
"No, not at all. If anything you helped it. So what's your name? And what brings you out here?"
"Rebecca, and I needed to get out of my house. Same reason as you I guess. I normally just walk through the trails but just the other day I found this tree and I've been wanting to come back to it. And what's your name?"
"My name is Equinox. This tree is very special, well, at least to me. You will find it's the perfect get-a-way spot."
"I think so," Rebecca couldn't stop starring at his eyes. They seemed to change from green to blue, "will you play another song for me?"
Equinox stood up and leaned against the tree again, "Well, that depends."
"On what?"
"Will you dance for me?"
Rebecca laughed and stood up, "Do you have a song that can keep up with me?"
"Start dancing and find out," Equinox said smiling.
Setting her sketchbook on the ground, Rebecca starting to think of a song in her head. Swaying back and forth she started to dance. Slow at first and Equinox started to mimic her moves on the flute. As she sped up, so did he, and he played in perfect sync with her.
Soon she closed her eyes and got lost in the song. Dancing and moving she could feel a spark of energy flow around her. As Equinox played he became enthralled by Rebecca watching her dance. He didn't want to be playing anymore, he wanted to be dancing with her, and he wanted to be close to her.
Feeling the energy of the music Rebecca was in her own world. She could feel the fall breeze embrace her and flow around her as if it wanted to dance too. Soon the soft grass felt like it wasn't there and she was dancing on air or in the clouds. Soon she felt like the air itself was singing and creating the music.
"Rebecca," she heard Equinox speak behind her, "don't be alarmed, but be careful, don't get to high."
"Huh?" Rebecca opened her eyes to see Equinox in front of her, but she could see the tree tops behind him and blue sky above. She was above the shade tree and the field! "What?"
"You said it best," Equinox said, "it's like magic. It's definitely real Rebecca."
She felt amazed, excited, but not scared. She half smiled and looked down. She was very high in the air. But she wasn't afraid of falling. Not with Equinox there. She felt...safe near him.
Stepping back and leaning forward Equinox outstretched his hand, "May I have this dance m'lady?"
She reached out and took his hand and they started to dance in the air around the top of the shade tree. She never thought that she'd be floating much less dancing in the sky. She laughed and smiled the whole time. Both of them still had the same song in their minds and the wind accompanied them.
Touching ground again Rebecca felt funny and her legs almost gave out. Equinox caught her and sat her gently down in the grass next to her sketchbook.
"The first time doing that can make you feel weird after, I'm sorry." Equinox said.
"Don't be sorry, I've never had someone take me into the sky before, much less dance with me like that!" Rebecca said with the biggest smile on her face. Seeing that the sun was slowly starting to sink she realized that if she stayed out too long, her parents would probably send her brother after her. "Oh my Sir Equinox, I have to say that was quite amazing! Unfortunately I have to be heading home soon."
"If you don't mind me asking, what do you have in the book? Do you write?"
Rebecca grabbed for the book and tucked it under her arms, "It's a sketchbook... I draw, well sort of."
Equinox sat down next to her and rested his arms on his knees, "That's amazing. It's okay though, I wasn't going to look through it."
"I just keep it close to me, it's private... but maybe I'll show you a drawing one day."
"I'd like that, does that mean Miss Rebecca, that I can see you again?"
Rebecca stood up and beckoned Equinox to do the same. Once he was up she leaned forward and kissed him. To Equinox it seemed to last forever. The air around them sparked. As she pulled away he wanted to move forward.
"I will be here tomorrow night Sir Equinox and you have to play more songs for me."
Equinox smiled, "I shall!"
Turning around Rebecca waved goodbye and Equinox watched her walk towards the woods and enter the trails. Picking up his ocarina and putting it in his pocket and started to walk home with a smile on his face and a beautiful Lien on his mind.
