Let's start off by saying that all Hubnesters are satellites and they are are linked to Inferno. The Hubnesters have similar programs and capabilities similar to Inferno, but not nearly as powerful or productive. Inferno is basically a huge Hubnester, the mother so to speak. And the Hubnesters are used individually feeding off Inferno's power. But also Inferno uses the Hubnesters to unlock it's power.
Think of Inferno as a giant combination lock. And it has different combination's to different aspects of it's capability. Position the Hubnesters one way and you've got a devastating weapon. Position them another and you've got a portal to a new universe. The possibilities for developing this is almost endless.
Below is where changes and updates will occur based on what we want the Hubnesters and Inferno to be. And how they relate to key characters in the story.

I must admit, the combination lock idea for Inferno is awesome. ;D

Different Lock Ideas for Inferno: 1 ) Of course the most obvious, a weapon. When unlocked the user can activate a weapon program and can trigger it to strike in a single location for one devastating attack. 2) A prison and a safe house all in one. People who constructed Inferno built chambers inside it to either protect or cage. Protect loved ones are sent to the safe houses and evil criminals are sent to the prison chambers. One combination unlocks all the safe houses and another unlocks all the prison chambers. Now certain prison chambers need a special combination based on how bad the criminal is. (I'm playing with this idea a lot...it needs development) 3) It's a portal. Unlocking a gateway to many different galaxies and universes. Whenever the portal is unlocked, that person is teleported to Inferno and must figure out how to use it's Gateway correctly to go to specific galaxies/universes. *That's all I have at the moment *

We need to have a brainstorming session about what Inferno really is and where it came from. Since it's central to the story, figuring that out would really help with further plot development and the direction it should take.
I actually have another crazy idea for it, lol. And it involves Steve!
Also since it's been around for far longer than anyone can remember (I think?) is Inferno just what the populace has dubbed it or is it it's actual name? Seems like it would be the former.
